"Due to consecutive seasons of drought, Somalia is witnessing a near total crop failure, increased livestock deaths, epidemic outbreaks and reduced rural job opportunities. According to OCHA, the timeliness of humanitarian assistance in the coming weeks and months is paramount to preventing another famine in Somalia."*
With that information in mind thousands of Twin cities residents came out to the Saint Paul River Center to help pack meals for Somalia. The experience was an electric 2 hours of non stop scooping, dumping, packing and cheering. When it was all said and done our shift had managed to pack more then 500,000 meals that will go on to feed over 1,000 Somali children for an entire year.
