Women's March 2017

January 22, 2018

It is hard to believe it has already been a year since the Women's March took place. I was unable to attend any Women's March event this year so I wanted to share a little of my experience from last year.

In short, it was one of the most positive and incredible experiences of democracy in action I have ever witnessed.

I remember hearing people reading the news on their phones as we made our way to the capital in a packed light rail car, everyone was shocked and excited to see that at that very same moment millions of other Americans were participating in the Women's March. We didn't know at the time It was the largest single-day demonstration in recorded U.S. History, with some estimates ranging from 3-5 million Americans participating. Not to mention every continent on Earth had a sister march taking place as well.

The air was positively electric marching towards the capital. I was working my way through the crowd trying to capture as much as I could and couldn't help but feel how upbeat everyone was around me. People were passionate and motivated and scared but they were out there in the cold marching for a purpose with their community. Numbers estimate 100,000 Minnesotans were present. Lot's of people with lot's of opinions but everyone was there together, standing for what they believe in.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        I am so thankful I was there. I think the Women's March will be looked at as a defining moment in the fight towards women's rights and equality for all people.  I really hope the momentum it created continues to grow and spread and bring more fresh voices to the political and social landscape.

We need it.
